Frequently Asked Questions
Our comprehensive FAQ covers everything you need to know about using immersive virtual reality in senior care— including device setup, safety, cleaning, comfort, data privacy, and network requirements. Whether you’re a caregiver, administrator, or healthcare professional, this guide explains how caregiVR works, how it supports older adults, and how to integrate VR safely and effectively into your care environment.
caregiVR is flexible and can be used in multiple ways to engage older adults:
1:1 Sessions: Provide personalized, immersive VR experiences while side-by-side with a senior.
Group Sessions: Cast the VR experience to a large screen allowing other residents to watch along, share in the experience, and feel encouragedto try VR themselves.
Remote Sessions: The headset and tablet do not need to be in the same location. As long as both devices have a stable Wi-Fi connection, caregivers can guide VR experiences from anywhere, even across different buildings or cities.
This versatility makes caregiVR suitable for individual therapy, social engagement, and remote caregiving alike.
No. Motion sickness in VR is not linked to age. In fact, many older adults have reduced vestibular sensitivity, which can make them less likely to experience motion-related discomfort. In our research and field use, we have not observed any increased risk of VR motion sickness among seniors compared to younger users.
caregiVR experiences are specifically designed with stable visual references to reduce disorientation and minimize vestibular stress. All of our experiences have been vetted and rated by clinicians and VRec Therapists based on our standard intensity assessment.
Not at all. caregiVR comes with a comprehensive training workshop designed to give staff plenty of hands-on practice. The workshop includes role-playing, troubleshooting tips, and guidance on how to introduce VR to seniors effectively.
We don’t just deliver the devices and leave it to your team—we work closely with your staff to ensure a smooth, confident rollout. Our success relies on this high-touch, partnership-based approach, so everyone feels supported every step of the way.
For initial setup tasks—such as connecting the headset to Wi-Fi (a one-time process) —you can use the hand controllers. Alternatively, these actions can also be completed using hand-tracking gestures if preferred. Once the app is open, caregivers can run the entire experience directly from the tablet.
No. Both devices must be connected to Wi-Fi, but they do not need to be on the same network. For remote sessions, the headset and tablet can connect even across different cities or countries, as long as each device has a stable Wi-Fi connection.
Yes. IPAC consultants have approved the disinfecting of caregiVR devices by using hydrogen peroxide disinfectant wipes to clean the headset body, silicone face mask, hand controllers, and hard surfaces of the headstrap. Avoid using disinfectant wipes on the eye lenses. Instead, wipe the lenses using a microfiber cloth, like those used for eyeglasses.
No. The headset follows a strict “No PHI” policy. It does not capture, process, or store any private health information. Even in the event of device loss or theft, there is no patient data on the unit for anyone to access, so there is no risk of data breach.

Absolutely. The caregiVR devices operate as a zero-trust, restricted-use appliance rather than a standard computing device. It will reject all incoming and outgoing connections except for a single, encrypted connection to our verified backend. This means the device will not attempt to communicate with any other devices on your network, nor will it accept connection requests from them.
For organizations that prefer full separation, you can run caregiVR on a dedicated, secure cellular network using a portable 5G hotspot such as the Inseego MiFi X PRO 5G (available through Rogers). This creates a physically isolated Wi-Fi network used only by the caregiVR devices.
